US more than doubled pet food exports since 2015
New figures from the Census Bureau reveal that the country exported 19.8% more dog and cat food in 2021.
The official data shows that pet food exports increased by 60% in the last 6 years. In 2015, US pet food exports were worth $1.28 billion (€1.16B).
In 2020 the amount was $1.7 billion (€1.54B) and in 2021 it reached $2 billion (€1.81B).
Since 2019, the US increased its cat and dog food exports by 25%. This reflects the growth in the pet population worldwide since the beginning of the pandemic.
According to the American Pet Products Association (APPA) National Pet Owners Survey, 67% of US households owned a pet in 2020. In 2021 this figure increased to 70%, which equates to 90.5 million homes.
