The retailer launched its online marketplace earlier in the year, offering over 2,000 stock-keeping units (SKUs) in its pet category.
The company notes that pet food has been the most popular product in the marketplace, but it has also noticed other trends.
“We’ve seen strong sales in other sub-categories which customers wouldn’t typically find large ranges of in Tesco stores, such as pet accessories, including beds, toys, collars, leads and litter trays,” states a spokesperson.
Tesco’s new marketplace features 25,000 SKUs, spanning categories such as garden, do-it-yourself (DIY), homeware, toys, sports, baby and beauty products.
More pet products soon?
Tesco currently features 10 active sellers in its marketplace, including Mars Petcare, British pet food brand Arden Grange and pet bedding, healthcare and hygiene product provider Petlife.
GlobalPETS learned that, due to the increased demand, the retailer is exploring options to introduce a range of pet healthcare products and sell items for other pets besides dogs and cats.
“We plan to continue growing the number of pet sellers and SKUs on Tesco Marketplace, making it a one-stop shop for our customers’ pet needs,” the company says.
