Almost 8 out of 10 American pet parents will dress up their pets for Halloween
Millennial owners show more commitment to Halloween festivities, according to a new survey from PetSmart.
The retailer survey of 1,000 American pet parents also unveiled that at least 33% of responders are willing to do and buy more than they did last year.
Pet parents actively involve their pets during the fall celebrations, with 47% taking their animals on road trips and vacations and 43% taking their pets to social gatherings.
For PetSmart CEO JK Symancyk, the results of this research show the pet market has “strength and resilience.”
“I think we continue to see people make choices to put their pets ahead of themselves and find ways to involve their pets in more of their lives. And that has continued to drive growth for the last 15-plus years. I believe it’ll continue to drive growth,” he said in a recent interview with Yahoo Finance.
Trick or treat
A quarter of pet parents intend to take their pets trick-or-treating.
Millennial pet owners are definitely ahead when it comes to new costumes: 86% say they will dress up their dogs or cats. In comparison, 66% said they change their pets’ accessories or apparel seasonally.
“I think consumers are starting to make some of those choices as it relates to discretionary versus non-discretionary items. But premiumization and humanization continue to drive growth in this industry,” said Symancyk.
