Jollyes pet shop to open 20 new stores after demand surge

The retailer is about to accelerate its growth by opening new own stores and acquiring smaller retailers.

Jollyes currently has 67 stores across the UK and saw a revenue boost of 21% in the last three months, compared to the same quarter two years earlier.

In the year to May revenue improved 13% to £77 million (€89.6m or $106m), and the company has reportedly increased sales of food and accessories.

Jollyes said that it had seen a 50 per cent rise in sales of birds such as canaries. Reptile sales had risen 14 per cent, it added.

Jollyes executive chairman Richard Cotter: “We’re excited about our future – we’ve worked hard to build a strong platform that will allow us to do much more – new and better stores, wider ranges and further investment in our people as we bring their passion for pets to more communities across the UK.”

It’s expected that 150 jobs will be created through the expansion.
