US: Pet food and treats sales increased by $30 billion over the past 5 years

In 2023, pet food and treats reached $64.4 billion (€59.1B) in sales in the US, a 10.8% increase against 2022. According to Statista, the category brought in $58.1 billion (€53.3B) that year.

Vet care and product sales were the second-highest pet segment in the US last year, with $38.3 billion (€35.1B), against $35.9 billion (€32.9B) in 2022.

The supplies, live animals and over-the-counter (OTC) medicine category generated $32 billion (€29.3B) in revenue in 2023, improving its performance by 1.5% annually.

Pet food and treats was the fastest-growing category between 2018 and 2023 and saw an 86.6% increase in sales. The category brought in $34.5 billion (€31.6B) in 2018 and has grown by nearly $30 billion over the 5 years to 2023. 

At 72%, supplies, live animals and OTC medicine saw the second-highest growth. The category generated $18.6 billion (€17B) in 2018.

Veterinary care and product sales improved by 38.2% during this 5-year period, while sales in other services rose by 26.8%.
