Where are the most pet-friendly rentals in the US?
New research unveils the state of play when it comes to renting an apartment with furry friends.
The survey, by Zillow rental platform and pet care firm BARK, concludes that more than 5 out of 10 (55%) rentals listed on Zillow are pet-friendly.
Dallas, Austin and San Antonio are the American cities with the most pet-friendly rentals, with 79%, 77% and 75% of landlords, respectively, allowing renters with pets.
Charlotte, North Carolina, comes in 4th with 75% pet-friendly rentals, followed by Indianapolis, Indiana (74%) and Denver, Colorado (72%).
The survey shows that 72% of New York’s rentals are pet-friendly. Despite being known for its cramped apartments, “pets allowed” is the second most used search filter for rentals there.
Phoenix, Arizona, stands in 8th position with 71% of rentals being pet-friendly, followed by Seattle, Washington (70%) and Jacksonville, Florida (69%).
According to Zillow and BARK’s insights, the number of renters who reported having at least 1 pet increased from 46% in 2019 to 59% in 2023. Similarly, the number of renters with a dog also rose from 31% to 40% during this period.
