Petco just became the first major retailer to ban artificial ingredients in dog and cat foo

Following the trend of humanization the first major retailer has now announced that they start banning artificial ingredients in dog and cat food, starting may first. This could implicate the start of an industry wide shift as major food producers will be forced to step up their game. 

“Last year, we put the entire pet industry on notice by introducing new standards for nutrition, because we firmly believe it’s the right thing to do for pets,” Petco CMO Tariq Hassan said in a statement.

As many of the PETS International readers know the market for natural pet food has exploded in recent years and is steadily growing. Reaching to over an estimated $10 billion in 2019. 

The announcement could be a turningpoint as Petco really shows that it is listening to its customers needs and demand. It also shows that larger companies are now understanding that offering pure and responsible is not only a nice to have but a must to satisfy customers. See also link
