Tom&Co acquires online veterinary pharmacies PharmaPets and Vetostore

The Belgian pet retailer expects to accelerate its digital strategy in the European market.

Tom&Co has acquired Barq Europe, which operates as PharmaPets in Belgium and the Netherlands and as Vetostore in France. The terms of the deal have not been disclosed.

With this operation, the pet store chain aims to position the new 100% Belgian company as the “undisputed leader” in the national pet market and a “growing player” in France.

“We look forward to starting this new chapter and complementing our network of physical stores with a strong online presence,” says Thierry le Grelle, CEO of Tom&Co.

“By joining Tom&Co, we can extend our mission ‘to make pet health accessible to everyone’ with new services and reach more ‘Pet Parents’ in Belgium, the Netherlands, and France to offer them the best care,” adds Sven De Waele, Co-founder of PharmaPets.

Barq Europe claims to be the largest online pet pharmacy in Belgium, the Netherlands, and France. The company is based in Waregem (West Flanders) and has an annual turnover of €45 million ($48.2M).
