Emami has recently acquired a 30% stake in pet care start-up Cannis Lupus.
With this new investment, the company seeks to roll out a range of natural, ayurvedic and chemical-free products for pets and scale up the business profit to capitalize on the experience of the start-up.
Vice Chairman and Managing Director Harsha Agarwal commented that the pet care segment in India is witnessing “rapid growth.”
A company spokesperson told GlobalPETS that the investment is in line with their expansion strategy in the FMCG space. Emami, as a strategic investor, will not be involved in the day to day business but will offer support “as and when required” to grow the business.
Cannis specializes in providing plant-based and herbal remedies with for dogs under the brand ‘Fur Ball Story’. “It offers unique Ayurvedic products for the well-being of the pets and meets the emerging consumer needs and aspirations,” added Argawal.
Headquartered in Calcutta, Emami is one of the leading personal care and healthcare companies in India, with more 300 products based on Ayurvedic formulations.
