The German retailer will open 14 new stores and acquire Super Zoo locations across both countries to consolidate its online and omnichannel strategy.
The new stores, which will be fully operative by the end of the year, will be located across Romania. The retailer will also open a store in the capital Bucharest and aims to reach 100 stores nationwide in the “long term”.
In addition, 11 Super Zoo locations across the country and their employees will be taken over. The company stated that six stores have already opened and are gradually being turned into Fressnapf shops and five others will be fully operative in the next few months.
“The takeover of the locations and employees of Super Zoo and its owner Dušan Plaček is a real gain for our targeted market leadership in Romania,” claimed the Fressnapf owner Torsten Toeller.
With these developments, Fressnapf seeks to establish an online and omni-channel ecosystem in Romania.
Business opportunities in Croatia
On September 1, the retailer also took over four Super Zoo stores in Croatia in a bid to establish its ecosystem in the country.
Fressnapf expects to open 10 more stores in Croatia by the end of 2022, expanding the network to more than 35 locations.
To date, there are 1,700 Fressnapf and Maxi Zoo stores across 11 European countries. The German retailer also owns shares in Arcaplanet Group in Italy (500 stores) and Unconditional Group in Croatia (30 stores).
