The American food processing company also plans to introduce the brand to other countries next year.
The pet food industry in Asia is growing rapidly and is attracting US and European pet food makers alike. General Mills is following suit as it sees a burgeoning potential in the world’s most populated country.
The Minnesota-headquartered enterprise revealed this and more at the Consumer Analyst Group of New York (CAGNY) 2023 Conference due to take place in Boca Raton, Florida, from 20-24 February.
General Mills also noted that its pet division is the company’s “fastest-growing” platform. It has grown its distribution in the US fourfold and has more than doubled its household penetration since it entered the pet industry in 2018.
It plans to build on its Blue Buffalo brand with a “renovation and innovation” on the Wilderness dry dog food line later this year, along with testing a new fresh line of refrigerated Blue Buffalo dog food.
Furthermore, it aims to modernize its natural pet treats portfolio and expand the Tastefuls cat feeding line.
