With this acquisition, the Dutch pet treats producer expands into the US market.
Scholtus Group, in the past few years, has continually invested in the growth of its production capacity of soft chews, functional supplements, training treats, extruded treats, and meat snacks in the Netherlands.
Through its US subsidiary Scholtus Petcare, the treats and snacks manufacturer is further boosting its capacity and offering with the purchase of Georgia-based Big Creek Foods.
Jan Smulders, MD of Scholtus, said, “We are impressed by the passionate team and the quality of the products at Big Creek Foods and are excited to work together.”
He added that the acquisition of Big Creek Foods “significantly strengthens” Scholtus’ offering and enables the next stage of development for both enterprises by “stepping up the pace for new product introductions and accelerating the expansion in new distribution channels” in the US and Europe.
Future opportunities
Tommy Gay, Owner and CEO of Big Creek Foods, on his part, said that he was “excited about the future opportunities” for the firm and its customers.
In the last 10 years, Big Creek Foods has built a strong business by producing and selling dehydrated meat snacks for dogs and cats. In 2022, it added 3 additional smokehouses to its facilities.
He added: “Scholtus will further expand the production and invest in new production technology. Big Creek Foods will be able to offer its existing and new clients a much broader product portfolio. We are very excited about the opportunity to offer new and innovative products to our customers.”
