ANF developed the world’s first application of advanced oxygen-limited
packaging to conserve nutrients and freshness in pet food products.

Over 40 years of experience

The company that created ANF® (or, to give it its full name, Advanced Nutrition Formula) was established in 1955 in Cedarburg, Wisconsin, USA, by Wilfred Ross and Loyal Wells. The company was known then as Ross-Wells and it supplied fresh-frozen poultry, beef and fish products to mink and fox breeders.

To improve the quality of the products produced, a unique manufacturing method was developed in 1966 to process fresh meat products into a dry food form. This process preserved the nutritional value of the ingredients and further stabilised the products’ shelf life.

Following observation, it seemed like these innovative products for fur-bearing animals would work equally well with dogs and cats. As a result, ANF was introduced in the mid-1970s as one of the first super premium pet foods in the world. In the mid-1990s, ANF successfully developed the world’s first application of advanced oxygen-limited packaging for pet food to conserve nutrients and freshness in the products.
