German pet retail chain Das Futterhaus has closed a “stable” and “positive” 2023 with a €523 million ($573M) turnover.
In Austria, where the company is also present, revenue increased by 5.5% to €57 million ($62.4M).
“In a challenging market environment, the specialized pet food and pet accessory trade continues to be robust,” says Das Futterhaus Managing Director Andreas Schulz.
Digitalization
The Hamburg-based retailer wants to continue investing in digitalization, including digital solutions “that offer added value” for customers, increasing the attractiveness of its brick-and-mortar businesses.
Das Futterhaus opened 14 new outlets and refurbished 25 existing stores last year. The franchise ended 2023 with 432 stores and plans to accelerate further growth with 20 openings in 2024 across Germany and Austria.
Last year, the retailer launched pet insurance offerings in collaboration with German insurance company HanseMerkur.
