FEDIAF’s new e-learning for labelling

FEDIAF’s new e-learning for labelling

Which additives do I have to label and how?  I wish to say on my online shop that my dog food  is ‘with lamb and rice’ – what are the rules?  Do I have to label ‘chicken’ or ‘poultry’? Am I allowed  to say ‘rich in meat’? Many questions, for which help is at hand.

Labelling questions

FEDIAF receives a lot of questions from the industry, from consumers and from trade, about what is allowed in on- and off-pack labelling. The easiest answer would be: see EU Regulation 767/2009 on the marketing and use of feed, which sets out what has to be labelled on-pack and off-pack.

But of course, not everybody is familiar with the difficult EU legislative jargon. So, to answer these questions and more, the organisation developed the  a number of years ago, which is now endorsed by the EU.

New e-learning tool launched by industry experts

Going one step further, in view of the demands and many questions around what may or may not be said when marketing pet food, FEDIAF’s team of regulatory experts have recently launched an e-learning tool on labelling. It comprises six detailed chapters, including practical, illustrated label examples and an interactive Q&A section.

Learn about the legal requirements of labelling in an easy-to-use format

Going through this online training, people will learn about the legal requirements in an easy-to-use manner. They will discover what the complex EU legislation means in reality, and what elements are not governed by law but by long-standing industry best practice.

This free digital tool is aimed at clarifying the three basic functions of product communication: ‘Consumer information’, ‘Control and enforcement’ and ‘Marketing and retail’. Moreover, it is an additional instrument to help ensure a harmonised application by industry and enforcement authorities across Europe, helping to achieve a level playing when it comes to labelling rules.

More to come

This e-learning tool will help improve the on-pack and off-pack labelling of pet food. After this first successful online tool, FEDIAF will work on a second e-learning tool: The , which sets out the important hygiene rules for pet food products.
