Fressnapf acquires Dutch retailer Jumper
The German firm wants to strengthen its footprint in the Netherlands as part of a European expansion plan.
Fressnapf has signed the acquisition of Dutch pet retailer Jumper Groep in a bid to further strengthen its position in the local pet market.
Owner and Founder Torsten Toeller highlighted that this takeover is a “strategically important” step for the firm. “The expansion will give us access to a highly developed and growing pet market,” he says.
The German pet retailer is convinced their omnichannel ecosystem strategy will work in the €1.7 billion ($1.8B) Dutch pet industry.
The acquisition has a retroactive effect starting 1 January 2023.
Jumper is the second-largest pet retailer in the Netherlands, with 47 stores, 3 franchise locations and 19 shop-in-shop concepts.
European expansion
The German pet retailer has recently been vocal about its European expansion plans and said it aimed to open around 120 stores by the end of 2023, with only 20 locations in Germany.
Fressnapf recently established Hungary as its hub in Southeast Europe by launching a new office in Budapest to design and implement its regional offline and online strategy.
Fressnapf l Maxi Zoo is currently present in 14 European countries with more than 2,000 stores.
