German pet owners disclose their top pet retailers and brands

Megazoo, Fressnapf and Kölle Zoo are the favorite offline pet retailers for German pet parents, according to a new survey of 7,000 pet owners carried out by Statista and Hundkatzemaus – a German television series dedicated to animals.

Globe Hardware Store and ZOO&CO also made it onto the leaderboard in 4th and 5th positions.

When it comes to online players, Bitiba and Zooplus were the preferred ones, followed by Fressnapf. The German pet retailer is the only company that found itself in the top three for both online and offline retail.

Pet food

The nutritional supplements and breeding category for dogs was led by Vet-Concept, Alphazoo and Belcando, according to the survey.

Vet-Concept also led three other dog categories: wet food, dry food and snacks. Royal Canin, Wolfsblut, Soulful and Rocco were the other most popular choices for wet food for dogs. Wolfsblut and Rocco were popular picks for the snacks segment too.

Platinum was ranked number 2 in the dry food category, followed by Belcando, White Power and Beneful.

The cat wet food category was led by Leonardo, MAC’s and MjAMjAM. The latter was the top pick for cat snacks, followed by Felix and Happy Cat. Dry food preferences ranked Sanabelle the highest, then Applaws, Josera, Hill’s and Royal Canin.

Fressnapf’s FIT+FUN was the top pick for primary fish food, Sera for reptile pet food, Körnerbude for birds, and Grünhopper for rodents and small animals.

Furniture

Natural Paradise and True Cat Love are the top two brands for cat scratching posts for German pet owners.

Food and water bowls for both dogs and cats were led by Hunter and Fressnapf’s FIT+FUN. For small animals, Bunny Nature and Flamingo made the top choices.

Sabro, Knuffelwuff and Doctor Bark were the highest-scoring dog bed brands. For cats, ZooRoyal, Canadian Cat Company and Dehner scored the highest.

Pet care and accessories

Zooplus’ Zoolove was the most popular choice for dog waste bags, while Tigerino was the most preferred brand for cat litter. FURminator was the top choice for grooming both cats and dogs.

Paw and claw care for cats and dogs both had Alphazoo in their top 3. However, it led the cat segment. Number 1 for dogs was Bogacare.

Julius-K9 and Hunter were most popular in the dog collars, leashes, tags and muzzles category, while Ferplast and Hunter were the top choices for cats.

Eyenimal was the top pick in cameras and gadgets for both dogs and cats.
