A survey project with 1,000 US-based respondents by Angi reveals how much influence a pet has in major and minor life decisions.
As pets are taking an increasingly more prominent role in households, it’s unsurprising that they influence many aspects of life.
These survey results shed new light on how far this influence reaches.
Pets’ influence on relationships
How many people love their pets so much that they would rather spend time with them than meet friends?
Turns out that, in this study, 72.9% of pet owners would rather stay at home with their pets than go out with their friends.
And it goes further than just relationships with friends: Almost half of pet owners (49.9%) would break up with their romantic partner if they were not accepting of how their pet was treated in the household.
Influence on where to live
As the saying goes ‘Happy pet, happy life’, the vast majority of respondents (87.8%) take their pets’ happiness into account when looking for their next place to live. The most important factors to consider are: the size of the garden, having a fenced yard and living near pet-friendly neighbors.
Comfort?
An uncomfortable pet won’t be a happy pet. So more than 92% of pet parents scored their pet’s comfort as a 7 out of 10 or higher in importance.
51% of respondents rank their pet’s comfort in their home as a 10 out of 10.
Unsurprisingly, that means that in many homes, pets are allowed to sleep in bed (77.6% of pet parents) or sit on the couch (85%). The majority of people (57.5%) do use a cover or protector for their couch to keep it clean from all the dirt their pets would drag in.
