Lallemand Animal Nutrition is a global leader in microbial fermentation using yeast and bacteria in animal nutrition.
Who is Lallemand?
Lallemand was founded at the end of the 19th century in Canada. Today, with more than 2,900 employees in more than 40 countries, the company has an active business presence on all five continents. The Lallemand group is specialized in the development, production and marketing of yeasts and bacteria for human and animal purposes, serving markets such as baking, beer brewing, wine making, spirits, biofuels, plant care, food, human health, pharmaceuticals and animal nutrition.
Applications
Specific yeast and bacteria products have proven their benefits both in human and animal health and well-being. Pet nutrition is at the crossroads between feed and food, both of which have common health and well-being challenges such as: digestive comfort and gastrointestinal health, natural immune defences, oxidative stress, cellular aging et cetera. Microbial-based solutions, such as specific probiotics, yeast derivatives and primary antioxidants can represent natural solutions to address these issues and enhance pets’ well-being.
Quality guaranteed
Lallemand is a primary manufacturer of yeast, bacteria and yeast derivatives. From the petri dish to the finished product, the company controls the whole development and production process of these microorganisms. Hence, the company can ensure its partners the quality, safety, purity, traceability and consistency of its products.
Research and development
Lallemand Animal Nutrition is a R&D-focused company. Using sound science, proven results and knowledge from experience, the company applies the right microbial strain for the right application. It does this through a careful selection of specific yeast and bacteria strains from its unique proprietary library containing more than 2,000 yeast strains and over 10,000 bacteria strains. In terms of product efficacy, the development and validation of products is based on scientific research and performance trials conducted with leading international research centres, universities and commercial locations around the world.
Innovation
The most recent innovation developed by the company is in the field of immune support. Thanks to cutting-edge techniques such as atomic force microscopy (AFM) and single-molecule force spectroscopy (SMFS), researchers have identified and selected specific strains of inactivated yeasts in order to combine them in a unique formula: YANG® (Yeast Association New Generation). YANG is a breakthrough innovation, which is patent pending. Having different strains allows the modulation of different receptors of immune cells, thus creating a synergistic effect.
Antioxidants
Dogs and cats are very often subject to oxidative cellular imbalance characterized by the production of free radicals, or reactive oxygen species, which can lead to health impairment. This occurs, for example, with older animals, which can suffer from various pathologies such as cardiac, hepatic, renal dysfunctions. In addition it is now proven that obesity can lead to inflammation of cellular tissues.
Lallemand provides solutions for maintaining the primary antioxidant defence mechanism at its maximum level of efficacy with enzymes such as Super Oxyde Dismutase (SOD) and Glutathione-Peroxydase (GSH-Px).
A team of experts
To better serve the international pet food and pet supplements markets, Lallemand has a dedicated team of experts. With twenty-five years of experience in the pet food business and expertise in probiotics, Christian Roques, the company Pet Business Development Manager, develops and promotes Lallemand’s portfolio of microbial nutritional solutions for pet food. Graduated in Agronomic Science from AgroParisTech in France, Roques has fulfilled different functions in nutrition, formulation, R&D, purchasing, production, quality and sales.
For the North American market, Bart Dunsford, PhD., is responsible for business development and working with local pet food clients. Dr. Dunsford has more than 15 years’ experience working in the pet food industry in a number of technical and marketing roles.
The company’s process development team, based in France, is also at the service of the pet nutrition market. This team is ready to work hand-in-hand with manufacturers to formulate pet food and supplements utilizing Lallemand microbial solutions.
