Management policies in the Chinese pet food industry
As a result of the improved standard of living and the economic development in China over the last thirty years, more and more pets have become a part of ordinary households.
The status of the pet industry
The pet industry in China is booming. Being a daily necessity in the same way as human food, pet food has taken up a very important position in the pet industry. In recent years, the development of pet food production in China has accelerated. Consensus about the prospects for future developments has been reached, as it is widely recognized as a very promising industry.
China’s pet food industry committee
Despite the recent developments, the Chinese pet food industry is still in its infancy, with many issues still having to be dealt with, such as the divergent size of companies, the lack of standardization in production and marketing, among other things. Therefore, the Pet Food Working Committee of China Feed Industry Association was founded in April 2011 to tackle these problems.
The committee answers to the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture and is composed of representatives and leaders of well-known enterprises, with the aim of establishing and perfecting industry standards, ensuring fair competition, and advancing a sound development of the pet food industry.
Since its establishment, some industry standards have been drawn up. Even more standards will be developed, so that the entire Chinese pet food market will be standardised in the end. The committee’s Secretary General, Prof. Wang Liwen, will be speaking at the GlobalPETS Forum Asia to explain the management policy of the Chinese pet food industry and she will also give an detailed account of the standards in the Chinese pet food sector. Other subjects that will come up for discussion include the comparison of Chinese pet food standards to international pet food standards, and the plan with which the standards of recent years were drawn up. Forum visitors will also receive information about the rules and regulations they need to consider when exporting pet food to China.
All in all, it will be a very informative lecture, which will be of particular importance to those professionals who wish to do business in China.
