Rabbits, chinchillas or hamsters might be small, but they still deserve the best to fill their little tummies and stay in good health. Luckily, nowadays, we have a wide variety of premium food available on the market for our small companions.
Small but premium
Even the most basic staple food has now its premium version, for the benefit of small herbivorous mammals. One of the first on board this trend was the US-based brand Oxbow, with their wide range of hay ingredients. They use timothy, alfalfa, oat and orchard grass. But how do they make it premium? First, the hay is cut and harvested early in its development to ensure exceptional quality. Then, a whole quality process follows, from careful inspections, through hand sorting, to lab analysis and storage in climate-controlled warehouses. All that yields impeccable products, that are the best for our little herbivores.
Bringing the wild indoors
While indoor rabbits might roam the lounge rather than the great outdoors, they still need to get all the nutrients from their diet that a rabbit would find grazing in the wild. Excel Indoor Rabbits, by Burgess, brings them all that. These little nuggets also contain some prebiotics and vitamin D, to support the immune system.
Premium pellets
Premium pellets are a must for pet parents who care about their fur kids’ health. Versele-Laga offers some of the best on the market, also very well-known by breeders and keepers. The Complete line of extruded pellets allows rabbits and rodents to chew on a top-quality food while preventing the little rascals from selecting only their favourite part, preventing issues like obesity or diabetes. This is very important especially for herbivorous rodents, who are often fed with a mix of grains, while they are not granivorous.
Grains and seeds
For small omnivorous rodents that do eat grains and various seeds, it is paramount to choose the right mix. The American brand Kaytee has developed several lines of food for our mini companions. The Supreme products for hamsters, gerbils, rats and mice are a wholesome, high-quality feed that contains all the natural proteins, fibre, oils, grains and nutrients for good health and a long life. And all natural, with no artificial additives.
Dutch brand, Witte Molen, an expert in trading cereals, seeds and nuts, has also developed many products beneficial to small pets. Among them, the line Expert Premium is very interesting for rats and mice. This high-quality muesli is a mixture of crispy kibbles and cereals, as well as pea flakes, wheat and oat flakes and animal protein. All for a premium balanced diet.
