The American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA) has announced its Innovation in Sustainability Award has been given to Helsinki-based fiber product manufacturer Ahlstrom for its PawPrint® Pet Food Packaging.
According to the company, PawPrint® provides pet food brand owners with functional and visually appealing pet food packaging, eliminating plastic while using fiber-based materials.
At the same time, the fact that the packaging is made from renewable materials and is recyclable and compostable helps pet food manufacturers achieve their sustainability goals.
“It demonstrates how we are living up to our purpose to purify and protect with every fiber for a sustainable world by innovating more sustainable solutions,” says Mark Ushpol, Executive Vice President for Ahlstrom’s Food and Consumer Packaging division.
The fiber company says that pet food is one of the most demanding applications in terms of grease resistance. “Traditionally, it has been difficult to provide plastic-free and per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) free solutions in this category,” a spokesperson from Ahlstrom concludes.
The AF&PA chooses which companies will receive this award based on their commitment to exemplary sustainability programs and initiatives in paper and wood product manufacturing.
