US pet food prices increased by 5% in the first 4 months of 2022
Data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics suggests that inflation in the category this year could set a record in more than 2 decades.
In March, prices for pet food products in the country were raised by 2.3%. In April, the increasing trend was slightly lowered to 1.2%.
Some major players such as Nestlé recently said that they raised the prices of their products in the different categories by 5.2% in the first three months of this year due to a “sharp increase” in cost inflation. The company did not disclose the specific rise of its pet food products.
The Adobe Digital Price Index concluded in March that prices have been steadily rising for the last 10 months, especially in the online channel. The research revealed that the price of pet products increased by 5.6% in a year in the US.
The US government data shows that the inflation on pet products stood at 2.4% in 2021.
