Amazon hosts first-ever Pet Day with discounts and live video shopping
The 24-hour action of the e-commerce giant takes place today ahead of the National Pet Month in honor of our “most loyal friends.”
Amazon is presenting “incredible deals and savings” across different categories, including pets, home and electronics.
“Whether you are looking for pet care, tasty treats, or pet-friendly electronics, our deals offer savings on items perfect for any and every type of pet and pet owner,” the company said.
Amazon Live, a live-streaming service that allows sellers to promote their products by hosting their own streams, will also offer the opportunity to customers to shop using this new method of buying. Viewers will be able to chat live with the hosts and easily shop the products through a carousel located alongside the stream.
Amazon said to GlobalPETS that Prime members who shop on Amazon Pet Day will also have access to special offers to rent or buy iconic pet movies on Prime Video including Secret Life of Pets, Sing, Madagascar and Hotel for Dogs, and classics like Ace Ventura Pet Detective, Air Bud, and Paulie.
Amazon dominates the sale of pet products online, with 59% of pet parents buying with them. The giant is followed by Chewy (41%) and Walmart (33%), according to Packaged Facts.
Pet food sales reached $9 billion (€8.55B) in 2020, more than double in comparison with 2019. In 2016, pet sales on Amazon accounted for $2 billion (€1.9B).
