Australian food giant TasFoods moves into the pet food industry

The Sydney-based group will market a new range of premium pet treats nationwide.

TasFoods is set to strategically enter the Australian pet treat market with its new premium treat brand, Isle & Sky.

The new ‘planet friendly pet nutrition’ brand will incorporate premium Tasmanian chicken products from its 2016-acquired Nichols Poultry business.

The strategic move is the latest addition to its 18-month-long strategic reset to establish an ‘adjacent expansion’ pillar of growth and spread market networks across mainland Australia.

Recently, the company leveraged Nichols Poultry’s capabilities and strengths to “capture key trends” in the premium pet product segment. “We have leveraged our core capabilities at Nichols Poultry to expand to this adjacent, high-growth category to fuel growth in both Australia and beyond once our model is proven,” says CEO Scott Hadley

National positioning

TasFoods attests to having gained national reach with pet retailer PetBarn across its network of over 200 stores across Australia. The two companies have entered a partnership to support TasFoods’ upcoming range of pet treats.

The company has also entered a distribution agreement with Australia’s largest wholesaler of pet products for independent pet retailers, Eastern Distributors, which caters to a network of over 1,400 pet stores in the country.

The Australian food group reported revenue of A$38.2 million ($24.3M/€22.8M) in the first half of 2023, marking an 11.8% increase against the same period last year.
