Brazilian pet food manufacturer invests $1.6 million in new distribution center
Special Dog Company aims to make its products available to more than 40,000 outlets.
The São Paulo-based pet food manufacturer opened a new distribution center in Minas Gerais after seeing a demand increase for the past 2 years in Southern Brazil.
The 7,000 sqm facility will help dispatch between 500 and 600 tons of products per week.
“We managed to gain market share due to the quality of our products and services, especially now when consumer demand is increasing,” a company spokesperson said to GlobalPETS.
The new facility is also expected to ease company operations in Rio de Janeiro and Espírito Santo, where the company wants to reach more retailers.
Capacity limit
The producer currently operates in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais, Goiás, Mato Grosso do Sul, Paraná, Santa Catarina and Distrito Federal. With the new warehouse in Minas Gerais, the producer plans to expand its operations to other regions.
GlobalPETS has learned that the pet food manufacturer has reached maximum production capacity, but has no immediate plans to expand its production lines.
Special Dog Company posted earnings of BRL 1.93 billion ($386M/€353M) in 2022, a 28% jump from the previous year.
Brazil has the third-largest population of companion animals with more than 149.6 million pets, according to Instituto Pet Brasil. It is estimated that the market will grow by 15% in 2022.
