Buddy Bites secures $4.2M funding as it targets Taiwan expansion

Hong Kong-based Buddy Bites has closed a $4.2 million (€3.7M) Series A funding round led by American venture capital firm Digitalis Ventures.

The round follows the company’s $1M (€886K) seed funding in 2025 from Leap Venture Studio, an investment initiative run by Mars Petcare. 

The new capital will primarily be used to scale its operations in Hong Kong and Singapore, its existing markets, and launch an upcoming shelf-stable fresh dog food line. The launch follows the introduction of its cat food range in June.

Chris Lee, Co-Founder of Buddy Bites, tells GlobalPETS that the company’s entry into the cat food segment was intended to deepen relationships with existing customers and partners.

“We’re a subscription-first business so everything we do gets filtered through ‘does this deepen that relationship with the customer,’ rather than just chasing one-off sales.”

More than 85% of Buddy Bites’ revenue comes from recurring subscriptions.

New markets

Buddy Bites also plans to expand beyond its existing markets, with an entry into Taiwan expected for early 2027.

“Taiwan is the headline expansion, our first market outside Hong Kong and Singapore,” says Lee. 

Lee adds that within its existing markets, Buddy Bites is no longer solely a DTC (direct-to-consumer) brand, with retail and its veterinary channel now becoming significant parts of the business.

Company performance

Over the past 12 months, Buddy Bites’ revenue grew 68% year-over-year (YoY), while its customer base increased by more than 10,000, split roughly 60%/40% between Hong Kong and Singapore, respectively. The cat food launch alone added 1,000 new customers within 2 months.

Founded in 2020, Buddy Bites offers premium dog food, treats and toppers made with ingredients including salmon, lamb and turkey, as well as cat food, treats and toppers in wet and dry formats.
