Burgess Pet Care completes plant overhaul to boost capacity and sustainability

Nearly €4 million has been invested into adding energy monitoring, solar panels and recyclable packaging lines.
British pet food manufacturer Burgess Pet Care has completed a 5-year manufacturing operation overhaul to boost production capacity, efficiency and sustainability at its plant in Yorkshire.
The company injected £3.36M ($4.37M/€3.86M) into this revamp.
“This investment futureproofs our operations while ensuring we can continue to deliver high-quality, sustainable products for both our own brands and our growing base of private label partners,” says Suzanne Moyes, Deputy Managing Director at Burgess Pet Care.
The multi-year investment will support the growth of the firm’s branded portfolio and private label production partnerships. The expanded facilities will enable flexible manufacturing solutions from bespoke formulations to full packaging and distribution support.
Sustainability
The site upgrade also aligns with the company’s ongoing sustainability strategy, which aims to reduce waste, increase the use of recyclable packaging and cut carbon emissions across its operations.
Burgess’s Goole manufacturing site has added solar panels, packing lines with greater capacity for recyclable packaging, enhanced energy monitoring, new silos, refurbished offices and an electric vehicle fleet.
The company says these upgrades will deliver increased throughput, material recovery and sustainability performance.
“More and more of our retail and brand partners are setting ambitious sustainability goals. By investing in our site and processes, we’re making it easier for them to meet those targets without compromising on quality or efficiency,” adds Moyes.
Burgess Pet Care offers pet food for dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs and other small animals across 4 of its brands: Burgess Cat, Burgess Excel, Burgess Sensitive and Burgess Supadog.
