Calysta and Addiseo announce a new protein facility in Saudi Arabia

The alternative protein company and the feed supplier want to expand the production capacity of sustainable protein in the Middle East by 2026.

A new partnership between Calysseo – a joint venture from Calysta and Adisseo – and business and projects development company Food Caravan aims to build a 100,000-ton-capacity fermenter in Saudi Arabia to produce Calystas novel protein ingredients.

The new facility will be located in the eastern city of Al Jubail, 460 km from the capital Riyadh. The plant is expected to be fully operational by the end of 2026.

“This would be our second industrial-scale plant and an important step in delivering enough sustainable protein to meet growing and pressing global demand,” said Alan Shaw, CEO, President, and co-founder of Calysta. According to Shaw, the company is ready to “rapidly scale up and meet that demand.”

Calysta’s protein platform is approved for use in livestock feeds and pet food across several global markets.

The construction of the factory is supported by the Ministry of Investment of Saudi Arabia and the National Industrial Development Centre.
