China, Japan and Australia lead market growth in Asia-Pacific

Euromonitor forecasts that the global market is set to grow by nearly 5% this year. GlobalPETS has the regional breakdown.

Asia Pacific’s pet market is forecast to hit an all-time high in 2025, according to data from Euromonitor International shared with GlobalPETS.

China, Japan and Australia are the region’s largest markets for pet care, including pet food and pet products. In 2025, China’s pet care market share is forecast to hit $13.5 billion (€11.6B), followed by Japan at $6 billion (€5.2B) and Australia at $3.7 billion (€3.2B).

In the pet food segment, China is projected at $6.5 billion (€5.6B), with Japan at $4.5 billion (€3.9B) and Australia at $2.9 billion (€2.5B).

Euromonitor’s data suggests that China is the largest market for pet products, and it is expected to reach $5.9 billion (€5.1B) this year. Japan ($1.5B/€1.3B) and South Korea ($1B/€859.5M) follow. 

Fastest-growing markets

China is expected to deliver the strongest year-on-year growth in pet care in absolute value, adding $546.7 million (€469.9M) this year, a 4.2% increase from 2024.

In relative terms, Thailand and India stand out, with forecast growth rates of 13.2% and 12.4% respectively.

In pet food, China again leads in absolute growth, expected to add $255 million (€219.2M) in 2025. Thailand follows closely with $208 million (€178.8M), while Japan is projected to expand by $91.7 million (€78.8M).

Smallest markets

The Philippines, Singapore and Vietnam remain the smallest markets in both pet care and pet food. 

In 2025, pet care sales are projected at $109.3 million (€93.9M) for Vietnam, $184.4 million (€158.5M) for Singapore and $444.5 million (€382M) for the Philippines.

For pet food, Vietnam is forecast at $91.6 million (€78.7M), Singapore at $156.9 million (€134.8M) and the Philippines at $407.4 million (€350.1M).

4-year period

Between 2021 and 2025, the pet care segment is projected to rise by 30%. According to Euromonitor data, this is from $23.4 billion (€22.1B) in 2021 to $30.4 billion (€28.7B) in 2025. 

Pet food is expected to expand from $15.4 billion (€14.6B) to $19.9 billion (€18.8B), also up 29.3%. 

Pet products are set to grow from $7.9 billion (€7.5B) to $10.4 billion (€9.8B), an increase of about 31% over the same period.
