Coveris completes acquisition of Czech label producer

British packaging company Coveris has completed its takeover of S&K Label, a producer of self-adhesive labels from Brno, Czechia, 200 km southeast of the capital of Prague. The company declined to disclose the financial details of its investment in the region.

Coveris recognizes S&K Label as “one of the most technologically advanced label manufacturers” in Central and Eastern Europe.

“This acquisition ensures the availability of locally produced, high-quality labels for Coveris customers, supporting current demand and anticipated future growth for sustainable label solutions,” a company spokesperson tells GlobalPETS

While S&K did not list pet foods as one of its businesses, it creates labels for general food and supplement categories.

Coveris did not disclose exactly where in the supply chain the label-making facility would fit, but with several pet food manufacturing plants in mainland Europe, Coveris may be able to cut labeling costs through in-house production or boost revenue through label sales outside Coveris’ current product line.

Coveris produces packaging solutions for various industries, including pet foods, at facilities in Germany, Hungary, France, Austria, the UK and Egypt.

International expansion for Coveris

Coveris has been eyeing Central Europe for some time, but the S&K purchase is its first acquisition of a label manufacturer in the region. Overall, it’s Coveris’ third company purchase in the region.

In 2020, the company broke into the region by purchasing Plasztik-Tranzit Kft, now Coveris Pirtó, in Hungary. In 2023, Coveris expanded its pet food packaging capacity with the purchase of D.K. LAMIN, now Coveris Białystok.

Coveris announced its fourth regional acquisition in December: a deal with Hadepol Flexo, a Polish packaging manufacturer. This facility primarily creates products for bakeries in the domestic market.
