Former Sainsbury’s and Asda Executive Director joins Pets at Home

Roger Burnley will become an Independent Non-Executive Director of the British pet retailer on 14 February 2023.

He will also be part of several company committees: Audit and Risk, Remuneration, Nomination and Corporate Governance and the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG).

Burnley served as Asda’s supermarket chain Chief Executive Officer between 2017 and 2021. He was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in October 2022 for his services to the retail and food supply chain during the pandemic.

“Roger has deep knowledge of the retail sector and food supply chains. His experience will be of great value to Pets at Home as it embarks on the next stage of its ambitious strategic plan,” said Pets at Home Chairman Ian Burke.

Before joining Asda, Burnley spent 10 years as an Executive Director at the British supermarket chain Sainsbury’s. In 2022, he was named Non-Executive Chairman of Irish food manufacturer Finnbrogue Artisan.

More changes

Sharon Flood and Stanislas Laurent, Pets at Home Independent Non-Executive Directors for nearly 6 years, will step down from the company’s board.

Senior Independent Director Dennis Millard will also stand down from his position effective 14 February 2023 after a 9-year tenure. He will continue as Director for a year as the company believes his professional background will “remain valuable” to the firm.

Zarin Patel, Non-Executive Director since April 2021, will replace Millard this month.

Pets at Home stated that the company is looking for a second Non-Executive Director and that “further updates will be provided in due course.”
