French pet retail group bets on omnichannel with Zoomalia takeover

The acquisition by JMT Le Royaume des Animaux is expected to integrate digital capabilities with the holding’s retail experience.

French pet e-commerce player Zoomalia has been acquired by Nicole Holding, the parent company of JMT Réseau & Central’T, which operates the JMT Le Royaume des Animaux retail chain, for an undisclosed amount.

Signed on 17 December, the takeover is part of “a strategic approach to complementarity of business models,” Fanny de Valon, Marketing Director of JMT Réseau & Central’T, tells GlobalPETS.

The French Competition Authority has unconditionally approved the transaction.

Digital and local network

According to Valon, Zoomalia has digital expertise while Nicole Holding owns a “strong local network.”

“The acquisition allows the company to benefit from increased purchasing power and proven retail expertise, and accelerate the development of a coherent omnichannel model that combines digital performance with local presence,” she adds.

Both companies will retain their identities, headquarters, teams, and organizational structures despite the acquisition, while creating synergies in purchasing, logistics and digital development. “The transaction aims to ensure full continuity of activities without altering existing workflows,” the Director explains.

They also expect to mutually benefit from integrated volume pooling and supplier condition optimization, as well as from leveraging Zoomalia’s e-commerce and technological expertise.
