Fressnapf expands footprint in Central Europe
The German pet retailer is close to opening its 60th store in Hungary.
Fressnapf just announced a new store opening in the Hungarian city of Dunakeszi, which lies in the central-northern part of Pest County.
“A new city always means new challenges but new possibilities as well,” said the company in a LinkedIn post. The company also expressed its excitement about the upcoming opening of its 60th store in Hungary.
GlobalPETS learned that the retailer is interested in continuing investing in Hungary and also in Romania, an “attractive” and “promising” market for the firm.
According to Fressnapf, Romania has one of the “highest shares of multiple pet holders and pet households in Europe and the majority of the population is open to becoming a pet holder in the future.”
“We are clearly committed to unleashing a new era of pet care for all pet lovers in Hungary and Romania with our great exclusive brands, our evolving range of services and relentless dedication of our specialized teams, bringing our vision of a comprehensive pet care ecosystem closer to them every day,” Patrick Bontenakels, Regional Operations Officer for Hungary & Romania, tells GlobalPETS.
Last September, GlobalPETS reported on the opening of Fressnapf’s Hungary office as well as 14 new stores across Romania and Croatia.
Consolidating outside of Germany
It is believed that Fressnapf aims to open around 120 stores this year. According to Founder and Owner Torsten Toeller, only 20 of them will be located in Germany.
“Most of the growth and the stronger growth will be in the other European countries,” he says.
The pet retailer wants to have a network of at least 80 stores in Hungary and over 100 stores in Romania.
A commercial investor recently confirmed to local media that a new location in the Northern Bavarian city of Fürth is set to open its doors in 2024.
