Gearing up for Zoomark: The latest highlights at the pet industry trade fair

From emerging tech to sustainable pet care, here’s what to expect in Bologna.

As Zoomark 2025 approaches, anticipation builds for a showcase of pet industry innovations and trends in Bologna, Italy, from 5 to 7 May.

With an estimated 1,500 exhibitors from across the globe, the event has grown to 90,000 square meters and is shaping up to be the largest edition yet, with the addition of a 10th hall.

Focus on excellence

One of the key highlights at this year’s Zoomark will be the Atelier area, a dedicated space to showcase artisanal craftsmanship and high-end pet products.

This area will feature brands that blend quality with contemporary design, from luxury pet accessories and bespoke apparel to gourmet pet treats.

“Atelier is more than just a showroom – it is a celebration of the passion and expertise that goes into the high-quality craftsmanship of those who are raising the bar in the vibrant pet industry,” says Luisa Bersanetti, Exhibition Manager at Zoomark.

The Aqua Project initiative

Aqua Project returns to Zoomark this year in Hall 29, offering a fresh perspective on aquariums and terrariums.

As more homes welcome fish and aquatic pets, this initiative will highlight developments in aquarium design, sustainable practices and advancements in water care technologies.

Industry experts will present the latest in aquascaping, energy-efficient filtration systems and eco-friendly solutions for aquarium enthusiasts.

“Once again, AIPA (the Italian Small Animal Association) has renewed its partnership with Zoomark to manage the Aqua Project area, thus highlighting the importance of the sector in the pet industry,” states Giovanni Zanon, Chairman of the AIPA.

The future of pet tech

The NEXT 5.0 area will feature emerging pet-tech companies and innovative startups and highlight the latest pet care technologies.

With an emphasis on AI, smart devices and sustainable tech solutions, it promises a glimpse into the future of pet care.

“This area represents a key hub for startups that want to contribute to growing the market, offering increasingly cutting-edge solutions for animal well-being,” says Pascale Sonvico, Show Office and Sales Manager of Zoomark.

Collaboration with Dr. Pol

Each Zoomark has a notable guest, and this year will feature veterinarian Dr. Pol, star of the popular TV show The Incredible Dr. Pol, who will make an appearance on 5 and 6 May in collaboration with Belgian animal nutrition company Mijten NV.

His visit marks the European debut of his new pet food and chicken feed lines, developed with Mijten. Visitors can find him in Hall 19, where he will participate in meet-and-greet sessions and media interviews.

“We are excited to collaborate with Dr. Pol and Mijten, whose lifelong commitment to animal welfare aligns perfectly with our mission to promote excellence in the pet care industry,” says Pascale Sonvico, Show Office and Sales Manager of Zoomark.

Sustainability takes center stage

As sustainability continues to be a major focus, Zoomark 2025 will highlight eco-conscious practices within the pet care sector.

The Pet Sustainability Coalition (PSC) is one of the key players in this effort, having secured a $75,000 (€66,200) WPA Good Works grant to support environmental initiatives. This funding will drive advancements in responsible ingredient sourcing, sustainable packaging and industry-wide education.

PSC will also release the 2025 Sustainability in the Pet Industry Report, providing insights into consumer trends, retailer behavior and key sustainability challenges facing the pet sector.
