Germany: ZooRoyal introduces new rewards program

Here is how the retailer wants to enhance its relationship with recurrent customers.

German online pet retailer ZooRoyal is launching its own loyalty rewards program. In 2024, the supermarket chain terminated its partnership with Rewe, its parent company, and left the PAYBACK rewards system.

According to the company, anyone with an account on ZooRoyal’s website is automatically a ZooRoyal Club member.

The new system will focus on consumers’ individual pets. Users will be encouraged to submit a profile of their animal. If they shop with the chain, members will receive exclusive benefits and coupons and be entered into a monthly prize raffle.

While it’s unclear how many people ZooRoyal expects to sign up, making membership automatic for those with accounts will boost numbers. The company operates some brick-and-mortar stores, but it primarily sells online, meaning many customers will already have accounts.

Fressnapf

In December, Germany’s largest pet retailer, Fressnapf, announced the extension of their contract with PAYBACK.

The company’s rewards program, Fressnapf Friends, aims to create “a unique offer” in-store and online. “It is locally an important step toward making the shopping experience even more personal and rewarding for our customers,” a Fressnapf representative tells GlobalPETS.

“The extension of the partnership now ensures that 31 million PAYBACK customers can continue to collect points easily and conveniently at Fressnapf,” says Florian Wolfframm from PAYBACK.

The system allows consumers to earn points through in-store purchases and redeem them for rewards. It is also available in Austria, Italy, Poland and other countries, although it is primarily used in Germany.
