In memoriam: Julia Klischies
More than a decade of impact in pet nutrition and product development.
We recently learned of the passing of Julia Klischies, a respected pet nutrition expert and PETS International contributor, on 14 March 2025.
Klischies’ career in the pet food industry spanned over a decade, during which time she contributed to product development, pet nutrition and promoting transparency in labeling practices. Her lifelong love for pets informed her work, and she used her expertise to make a lasting impact.
As a scientific contributor to our publication, Julia authored several informative articles, including the impact of calories in pet treats, the re-evaluation of feed additives in the EU and the safety and regulations surrounding the preservatives in pet food. Her work emphasized the importance of transparency, quality and responsible pet food development.
Career and contributions
As the founder of her own consultancy in 2019, Klischies specialized in product development, nutrition consulting, as well as packaging and labeling.
In addition to her entrepreneurial work, she served as a Product Development and Nutrition Expert at Pets Nature since 2013. In this role, she helped create private-label products, from recipe development to label design, while ensuring food and feed laws compliance. She also managed the company’s social media platforms to engage with pet owners and provide support on pet nutrition-related queries.
In 2023, she joined Fellicita – a pet food development and nutrition consulting firm – as a business partner.
Earlier in her career, Klischies worked as a Pet Nutritionist and Assistant Sales Manager at Hundedomain, where she developed healthy pet food solutions and provided advice as a certified pet health practitioner.
A painful void
“Her sudden death leaves a painful void in our lives and in all of our lives. We will remember Julia with gratitude and never forget her commitment, her energy and her zest for life,” says Amelie Krause from Fellicita and Martin Schupp and Christian Numsen from Pets Nature.
Klischies’ dedication to promoting high-quality pet nutrition and ensuring transparency in the pet food sector will be her legacy. Though her loss is deeply felt across the pet care community, her legacy will continue to shape the industry.
