Innovafeed completes plant expansion
The French insect producer aims to ramp up production capacity to 100,000 tons and explore pet food applications.
Innovafeed has completed the second phase of its factory expansion in northern France to increase the production capacity of Black Soldier Fly Larvae (BSFL). The facility, located in Nesle, has increased to a 55,000 sqm floor space.
The expansion, which will finalize by 2024, is set to produce over 100,000 tons of ingredients per year, including 15,000 tons of proteins, by increasing the breeding capacities.
The firm believes the production site represents “a symbol of the green reindustrialization currently taking place in France” and a milestone toward becoming the market leader in insect production.
Pet food applications
Innovafeed aims to strengthen its product knowledge and applications in pet food in the same way it did in the past in the aquaculture field.
“This is being done through research and trials, conducted along with our industrial partners in Europe and in the US or on our own,” said Nicolas Hamelin, Petfood Product Manager at Innovafeed.
Hamelin added that they have a product development team dedicated to improving the performance and quality of ingredients to support the advancement of new products.
Innovafeed also looks forward to inaugurating its first American production plant in Decatur (Ilinois) with ADM as an agro-industrial partner.
