Inspired Pet Nutrition acquires French firm Sopral

The UK-based company adds the dry pet food manufacturer to its portfolio in a bid to expand its European footprint.

Inspired Pet Nutrition has received approval from CapVest and Parquest, the controlling stakeholders in the company, to acquire Sopral for an undisclosed amount. The transaction is subject to customary regulatory approvals and closing conditions.

“This highly complementary strategic combination marks a significant milestone for IPN and provides us with a state-of-the-art manufacturing, logistics and sales platform to grow and realize our ambitious growth plans in the European market,” says Arthur van Benthem, CEO of IPN.

The Thirsk-based manufacturer in North Yorkshire notes that the acquisition will unlock numerous new opportunities for both organic and acquisition-led growth.

“Sopral is another great addition to the IPN platform, creating significant capability and scale to underpin IPN’s growth in Europe,” states Matthew Fargie, Principal of CapVest.

Company background

Sopral is based in Pléchâtel, in northwestern France, 377 kilometers from Paris. The company produces dry dog and cat food under the brands Pro-Nutrition Prestige, Pure Life and Protect.

It is present in 50 countries and operates a 13,400-square-meter manufacturing facility, as well as in-house research and development capabilities.

IPN manufactures dog meals and pet treats under the Harringtons, Butcher’s and Wagg brands. The company was acquired by CapVest in 2020. A year later, IPN acquired Pet Food UK, adding premium dog and cat brands, such as Aatu, Barking Heads and Meowing Heads, to its portfolio.

In August last year, the firm also acquired Butcher’s Pet Care (BPC), a UK-based wet pet food manufacturer.
