Investment for cultured pet food specialist Because, Animals

The biotech company growing cultured meat for dogs and cats closed its seed stage investment round, led by Orkla ASA.

The startup has raised $6.7 million (€ 5.5 million) to date.

In 2019, Because, Animals succeeded in producing a cat treat made from cultured mouse tissue. A year later, the company was awarded the Purina Pet Care Innovation prize.

Since then, the company has progressed considerably, making strides on the scientific front by reducing the cost of their cultured meat, getting closer to commercialization. They will use the investment to ramp up production, and product development to accelerate that progress.

In the meantime, they sell healthy and sustainable treats and supplements for cats and dogs.
