Italian industry association ASSALCO appoints new president

Giorgio Massoni, general manager at Sanypet – Forza10, will be the voice of the country’s pet companies until 2026.

Massoni succeeds Gianmarco Ferrari, who led the Italian Association for Pet Feeding and Care (ASSALCO) from 2014.

“It’s an honor and a responsibility to pick up Gianmarco Ferrari’s baton after a long presidency in which our sector has achieved truly important results. Together with the new Board of Directors, we will continue with commitment and passion the path started these recent years,” claimed Giorgio Massoni.

He will be looking to strengthen the industry’s dialogue with the authorities, the veterinary community and the entities that are concerned with the wellbeing of pets.

Recent figures from Zoomark and ASSALCO revealed that the turnover of the Italian market for dog and cat food was €2.5 billion ($2.7B) last year, up 8.4% from 2020.

More than two decades in the industry

Massoni started work in the pet industry in 1998 at Royal Canin in Milano as a veterinary representative.

He moved to Nestlé Purina Petcare Italia in 2003 as Veterinary Manager before joining Royal Canin again as Veterinary Channel Manager and was then promoted to General Manager.

He also worked at Monge and Agrifarma and was appointed General Manager at Sanypet – Forza10 in January this year in a bid to strengthen the performance of the dog food brand following the acquisition of the company by CODICO.
