Mars appoints new Global President of Petcare

Marc Carena brings extensive FMCG and retail experience to the company’s largest business segment.
Pet food manufacturer Mars has announced a leadership transition at the top of its petcare division with the promotion of Marc Carena to Global President of Mars Petcare.
Carena joined Mars in 2022 as Regional President for Mars Snacking Europe, Central Eurasia and International Travel Retail, where he led operations across 55 markets.
Mars CEO Poul Weihrauch said that he is the “right person” to lead the business into its next chapter.
“His track record for delivering results whilst driving ambitious change – with the customer and consumers always at the center – will help to ensure our business will continue to thrive in an ever-changing landscape.”
Pet is Mars’ largest segment, representing a business of approximately $30 billion (€25.7B), spanning pet food, veterinary services and diagnostics.
FMCG and retail experience
Before joining Mars, C Marc Carena held senior leadership roles at McDonald’s, including serving as Managing Director in Russia and leading more than 60,000 employees. He has also worked in senior positions at Nestlé and Metro Group.
He also currently serves as Vice-President of the European Food and Drink Association, which represents FMCG interests across Europe.
Carena succeeds Loïc Moutault, who is concluding a 30-year career with Mars. During his tenure, Moutault played a key role in shaping the petcare branch’s global strategy and championed talent development across the business.
