Mars India will increase production from 2024
The pet food manufacturer’s plant in Hyderabad is expected to cope with the country’s increased double-digit demand for pet food.
The new plant extension will add a second dry extruder line and boost packing line capacity.
The expansion will increase its production capacity to 65,000 tons of dry food. According to Mars, this is enough to cover the Indian market needs and cater to exports across Asia.
The company’s Managing Director for India, Ganesh Ramani, revealed that “continued efforts” to market packaged pet foods in the country have led to the segment growing from 16% in 2019 to over 20% in 2020.
“In 2021, we gained a market share and outpaced the category growth expected to be 35% to 40%,” he added.
Construction on the new line should start in early 2024 and be completed within months.
Mars Petcare announced in 2021 that it would invest ₹500 crores ($61.9M / €56.8M) in extending its existing Hyderabad manufacturing facility established in 2008. Hyderabad is the largest city in the Indian state of Telangana.
