Mars Petcare strengthens leadership in Europe and Asia Pacific

Mars Petcare has appointed Deri Watkins and Paolo Rigamonti as Regional Presidents for Pet Nutrition in Developed Asia Pacific (APAC) and Europe, respectively, as part of its strategic leadership changes.

Deri Watkins

Watkins, who has been with Mars since 1998, has worked as Chief Customer Officer of Petcare, General Manager of Mars Pet Nutrition Europe and Australia and New Zealand (ANZ).

Most recently, he was Regional President for Pet Nutrition in Europe, where he led the pet food manufacturer’s through the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.

His leadership was essential to ensuring the continuity of operations during supply chain disruptions and advancing sustainability initiatives within the European pet food supply chain.

“After 5 and a half incredible years leading Pet Nutrition Europe, I am excited to be starting this new journey,” he says.

Watkins’ experience is particularly relevant as his leadership will help Mars focus on accelerating its presence in key APAC markets, such as China, Japan, and India, where there is an increased demand for premium pet nutrition.

Paolo Rigamonti

Rigamonti, who previously led Mars Petcare’s operations in the UK, Ireland and the Nordics, will succeed Watkins as the new Regional President for Pet Nutrition Europe.

He has worked within Mars for 11 years, bringing extensive experience to his new position within the company.

“After leading Pet Nutrition UK, Ireland and the Nordics, I am looking forward to taking on the diverse challenges and opportunities that the European market presents,” Rigamonti says.

His previous roles within the company also include General Manager of Pet Nutrition UK and General Manager and Managing Director of Southern Europe.

During his tenure in the UK, Rigamonti played a key role in expanding Mars’ presence and market share while driving sustainability efforts. He played a part in advancing Mars’ Better Cities for Pets initiative, which collaborates with local governments and organizations to create pet-friendly urban environments across Europe.

Deri Watkins and Paolo Rigamonti’s appointments come at an important time for Mars Petcare. Both Europe and Asia Pacific regions are experiencing shifts in consumer behavior and a growing demand for pet food.
