Musti Group finalizes Pet City acquisition
The Finnish pet retailer aims to strengthen its position in the Baltic market.
As part of its European expansion strategy, the Nordic pet player has completed its €18.2 million ($19.2M) acquisition of Pet City.
First announced in October, the deal encompasses the Baltic company’s retail and veterinary operations in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, as well as its e-commerce platform.
Musti Group is now the of Pet City’s 46 retail stores and 16 veterinary clinics. The newly integrated Baltic operations generated €31.5 million ($33.2M) in turnover during the 2023 financial year.
“I’m extremely excited about what we can achieve together in the growing Baltic market as we share best practices between the Nordics and the Baltic markets,” shares Musti Group CEO David Rönnberg.
The move also marks Musti Group’s acquisition by Portuguese conglomerate Sonae.
Strategic partnerships
Musti Group’s Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) Ellinor Persdotter Nilsson recently shared in an interview with GlobalPETS that the company is focusing on its omnichannel offerings and the importance of fostering strategic partnerships within the pet care industry.
“Our strong brand offering also has the potential to expand beyond the Musti universe, so brand export is an area we’re exploring. International expansion is also part of our growth journey, and this investment indicates confidence in our potential,” she says.
This acquisition aligns with Musti’s broader goal of integrating best practices from the Nordics into the Baltic region, driving growth and expanding its market share across Europe.
