New pet players join the B Corp movement

Pet Trust, Barkibu, Forthglade and Omni Pet earn B Corp certification, joining over 9,700 companies globally.

New pet players have joined the B Corp club, which comprises over 9,700 companies globally, building on the momentum since last year, when at least 6 pet companies were certified.

The B Corp (Benefit Corporation) certification is awarded to businesses that meet the highest standards of social and environmental performance, accountability and transparency.

Pet Trust UK

UK-based pet services business Pet Trust UK has earned full B Lab “Certified B Corp” status, marking another newcomer in the pet-care arena to join the global community.

Achieving B Corp Certification is rightly a challenging and rigorous process, and that’s what makes it meaningful,” says o-founder and CEO Felix Robinson.

“It has inspired us to check, measure and challenge how we build our business from the very start, ensuring that the foundations of Pet Trust UK are rooted in trust, responsibility and real impact for pets and the people who care for them.”

Pet Trust UK provides a digital platform that centralizes pet health, identification, and ownership data, helping vets, insurers, rescues and authorities access accurate information when needed.

Barkibu

Spanish pet health insurance company Barkibu earned a B Corp certification in September with an assessment score of 82.

“Becoming a B Corp means a lot to us, not just as a badge, but as a reflection of our company culture and the commitment of our team to positive impact across our business,” Maria Gonzalez, CMO and Co-founder of Barkibu, tells GlobalPETS.

According to Gonzalez, the company earned this status due to its dedication to ethical business practices, sustainability in its operations and its ongoing work to support both pet owners and the wider community.

Founded in 2014, Barkibu currently offers digital pet insurance covering veterinary expenses for more than 50,000 cats and dogs in Spain, France and Germany.

Forthglade

UK-based pet food manufacturer Forthglade is now B Corp certified, earning a score of 96 in the assessment. A non-profit organization, B Lab, verified the certification.

“We’re delighted to announce that due to the commitment and tenacity of our team, Forthglade is now B Corp Certified, proudly joining the ‘business as a force for good’ community,” says CEO David Cox.

According to Cox, they have the opportunity to make a real, positive impact.

The company offers dog food and treats for all ages, made with natural ingredients, sold through online retail and subscription. It also partners with various charitable organizations that support dogs.

Omni

Founded in 2020, British pet food brand Omni Pet has secured its B Corp certification with an overall assessment score of 80.3.

As an early-stage company, we saw this as a valuable opportunity to embed strong governance and ethical practices from day one,” says Shiv Shivakumar, Co-founder of Omni. “It’s far easier to build these foundations early than to retrofit them later, and B Corp has helped us raise the bar across the board.”

Shivakumar points out that becoming a B Corp requires a “deep” and “rigorous” review of every part of the business, from supply chain and sustainability to governance and team culture.

Omni Pet creates veterinarian-backed plant-based dog food and treats, specializing in allergy-prone pets. The company is also known for using recycled packaging and for participating in charities and environmental efforts, such as tree planting and beach clean-ups.
