NORPEL opens new facility to cope with pet protein demand

The plant of the seafood supplier in the US state of Pennsylvania will produce fresh and frozen protein in an attempt to sustain growth and new opportunities within the pet food sector.

This is NORPEL’s third processing facility and will be added to the existing ones in New Bedford (Massachusetts).

“The reason for the build-out is we were running out of capacity in New Bedford and we wanted to get closer to the source of “other proteins” since our background is in seafood which is right on our front door in New Bedford,” said to GlobalPETS president and CEO Brady Schofield.

With this new facility, the pet protein manufacturer also aims to reduce its carbon footprint.

Schofield added that they are currently building a cold storage facility attached to the new processing facility.

NORPEL’s product mix comprises mostly fresh and frozen proteins, such as seafood, poultry, domestic and imported meats.

The company has been a provider of premium and sustainable proteins for pet food manufacturers since 2015 and has experienced “good growth” ever since.
