Pet players among Canada’s Best Managed Companies

Pet businesses have been recognized for entrepreneurial excellence, innovation, and sustainability.

Pet retailer Ren’s Pets was recently announced as one of the winners of Canada’s Best Managed Companies for 2023. The award recognizes the company for its industry-leading performance, strong culture, and sustained growth.

Legault Group, the owner of Ren’s Pets, said it had a track record of opening between 4 and 12 stores annually over the last 6 years, significantly expanding e-commerce and innovation capabilities.

“At the end of 2023, we’ll have 57 stores and an award-winning national online business. It’s an amazing success story for a Canadian-owned, Canadian-operated business that started as one single farm and feed store 48 years ago in rural Ontario,” said Larissa Wasyliw, VP of E-commerce & Marketing at Ren’s Pets.

Canada’s Best Managed Companies is sponsored by Deloitte Private, CIBC, The Globe and Mail, Salesforce, and TMX Group. It recognizes private-owned companies with turnovers higher than C$50 million ($37.2M/€34.8M) after evaluating leadership in strategy, culture and commitment, capabilities and innovations, and governance and financial performance.

Other winners

Ingredient supplier Blendtek has also been awarded this year, while Ontario-based veterinary practice group P3 Veterinary Partners has retained its Best Managed Company status for over 2 years.

Legault Group’s Mondou pet retailer and pet food manufacturer Champion Foods kept their status for 3 consecutive years.
