Pet wellness startup, Barkyn, raises an additional €3 million

The subscription service for pets combines food with tele-vet services in Sourthern Europe. Since it launched in 2017, the Portuguese business has raised a total of €10 million ($12 million).

Currently, Barkyn serves customers in Portugal, Spain and Italy and says it grew 40% each quarter in 2020.

It says personalizing the food to match the dog’s nutritional needs is part of its attraction for customers.

André Jordão, Barkyn’s CEO and co-founder: “We’re rethinking what the pet market should look like, through technology — building a pet care service and not only a pet food subscription. We’ve developed a 360 holistic experience: a subscription that aligns the best food you could ever give your dog with telemedicine.”

For every Barkyn meal plan sold, the company donates one meal to a shelter dog and is currently working with 80 associations across Southern Europe. To date, it has donated over a tonne of food.
