Swedish pet retailer ZOO.se takes over e-commerce player
With the acquisition of Tinybuddy, the company becomes the second largest pet food and products provider in Scandinavia.
ZOO.se continues to build on its expansion in the Nordic region as it acquired the Swedish pet e-commerce platform Tinybuddy.
The Stockholm-based pet retailer will now have 14 stores in Sweden as well as an e-commerce reach across Europe, forecasting a turnover of SEK800 million (€70.6M/$75.8M) in 2023.
CEO Christer Åberg said that the digital approach of Tinybuddy “is a perfect match” for the company.
Tinybuddy’s Tim and Louise Jansson will take on new roles as co-owners of ZOO.se through the acquisition.
Planned expansion
In the past year, ZOO.se began its online operations in Finland and Norway. At the beginning of 2022, the company brought on board investor and insurance firms eEquity and Sampo to boost the business in the region.
It also invested in a strong management team and updated its systems to enable a “powerful scale-up” of the company.
ZOO.se aims to open more ‘brick and mortar’ stores, expand to new countries, launch additional brands, and strengthen its offering.
Tinybuddy was founded in 2018 in northern Europe and retails pet food, accessories, gifts, interior design for pets, and personalized knick-knacks. The company is said to have a present turnover of SEK120 million (€10.6M/$11.3M).
